Todd Shelton enters his 19th season as Head Coach of the Panola Ponies baseball program. During his first 18 seasons at Panola College, Shelton has compiled an impressive 552–423 record and currently holds a career head coaching record of 779–514. Under his leadership, the Ponies have reached postseason play in 15 of his 18 seasons.

The 2026 season concluded with the Ponies finishing with a 26–26 overall record.

A 1986 graduate of Conroe High School, Shelton earned his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and later completed his master's degree at Cumberland University.

Shelton began his collegiate playing career at McLennan Community College before transferring to Oklahoma State University, where he played under legendary coach Gary Ward. As a catcher for the Cowboys, Shelton helped lead the program to two NCAA Regional appearances and played in the 1990 NCAA College World Series National Championship game. Following the College World Series, he signed a professional contract and spent one season in the Cleveland Indians organization.

Shelton began his coaching career at Oklahoma State University as an assistant coach under Coach Ward before becoming the first assistant coach at NAIA powerhouse Cumberland University. In 1993, Cumberland advanced to the NAIA College World Series.

In August 1994, Shelton returned to Oklahoma State as an assistant coach and helped guide the Cowboys back to the NCAA College World Series in 1996. The following season, he served as an assistant coach at Northeast Texas Community College.

Shelton became head baseball coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1997 and led the program to its first NJCAA College World Series appearance in 2001. He remained at Eastern Oklahoma through 2004.

From 2005 through 2007, Shelton served on the coaching staff at Oral Roberts University. During that span, his teams advanced to two NCAA Regional appearances and the 2006 NCAA Super Regional.

Shelton's coaching career has been defined by sustained success, player development, and building winning programs at every level. Throughout his career, he has established a reputation for recruiting and developing student-athletes while fostering competitive and championship-caliber programs.
